40-hour Divorce and Custody Mediation Training

We offer a comprehensive, five-day 40-hour Divorce and Custody Mediation Training that uses a combination of role play, lecture, simulation, discussion and videotapes of actual mediation. Public sessions of the program are regularly scheduled in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Chicago, Illinois. In addition, we take this same program on the road to offer training onsite throughout the country for sponsoring groups and organizations. Our Divorce and Custody Mediation Training has been approved for continuing education credits in a number of states. » Details

30-hour Custody Mediation Training

This 30-hour Custody Mediation Training is for groups wanting training in the parenting aspects, but not the financial apsects, of divorce mediation. It's been approved by the Family Section of the Association for Conflict Resolution (formerly Academy of Family Mediators). » Details

2.5-Day Training in Elder Mediation

This training focuses on Adult Guardianship and Family Caregiver Mediation. Learn the differences between other types of mediation and elder mediation. In this training, we will focus on the mediator's responsibility toward inclusion of the older person's voice in the mediation and techniques to achieve that. At the conclusion of the training, you will be prepared to organize and perform elder mediations. This training will not certify participants as a mediator, but is meant as an advanced training for those who have already taken basic mediation training, and an introduction to Elder Mediation for those who have not. » Details

5-Day Basic/Advanced Training in Elder Mediation

This training combines basic mediation and elder mediation skills. It provides practice opportunity for pre-mediation meetings, listening skills, identifying and framing issues, negotiation strategies, and agreement writing within the context of elder mediation. The elder mediation components include skill building exercises and discussion on a range of topics. » Details

Civil Mediation Training

We offer onsite 16- to 40-hour civil mediation training, suited to meet the needs of your region or state. Training includes presentations, skill practice, videotape analysis, and more! » Details

Domestic Violence Screening Protocol Training

The Michigan State Court Administrative Office (SCAO) requires that Domestic Relations Mediators wishing to be listed on court rosters take an approved Domestic Violence Screening for Mediators Training (see Court Rule 3.216 on the Michigan Court of Appeals web site). This training includes an overview of domestic violence issues in mediation, an overview of the Michigan Domestic Violence Screening Protocol (which can be found on the SCAO's Office of Dispute Resolution web site), and training in the use of the Screening Protocol.   Video and role play are included.

Michigan is the first state to approve a Domestic Violence Screening Protocol for private mediators. The screening protocol "is designed to identify parties involved in divorce or child custody actions for which mediation may be inappropriate because of domestic violence or child abuse, and to maximize safety and fairness in the mediation process." » Details

Advanced Mediation Training

We present on a range of advanced mediation topics at individual training workshops, conferences and organizations throughout the country. Workshops are geared for mediators who have already taken the basic training, and all satisfy state requirements for continuing education.
